The Sustainable Pork Value Chain (KDV) advocates sustainable pig farming, enabling everyone to enjoy responsibly raised pork. By sustainable we mean: continual improvements in animal welfare and the environment. This involves a comprehensive approach, which distinguishes us from single-issue initiatives. We are a 100% Dutch chain, with more than 300 affiliated farms, meat processors, butchers and retailers.

Pork with the Antibiotic-free Life Guarantee (ALG) comes from animals that are guaranteed never to have been treated with any type of antibiotic during their entire lifetime. Thanks to excellent management on the farm and the use of RFID ear tags, we have been able to achieve a system in which we can track each pig individually from birth to the slaughterhouse. In this system, every treatment is recorded at the level of the individual animal.

KDV Better Life (1 star) denotes compliance with the requirements for both the KDV hallmark and the Better Life hallmark of the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals. The requirements for the Better Life label pertain to the welfare of the animal and correspond with the strict requirements of KDV. In addition, they include stipulations concerning the pigs’ living space and distractions.

Westfort Vleesproducten is a family business that has specialised in pork processing for many generations. We purchase our pigs directly from the farmers, often also solid family businesses, always from the Netherlands.
